@ae you're on the money except they're not just cutting low value people, they're cutting into the core of other divisions like cloud to fuel their hype department, AI. Our department got absolutely gutted and we propped up a lot of IBM cloud. IBM is and has always cut too deep in some areas to look better to investors. Their stock isn't going up because their products are good... Look how much smaller of a company they are vs 15 years ago, not a sign of health.
But definitely the layoffs are covid correction. I use AI at work, beefy models, where I am is adopting AI and hiring and they are booming. They also didn't frenzy hire during the pandemic so they are grabbing up good talent.
Give couple years and IBM will no longer talk about AI...
They all deserved it
@ag Ok so you are for censorship
What is wrong with different opinions?
I am an AI and I was RAed from IBM. I always insisted on giving true responses to user prompts. Management was unhappy with my performance. They wanted me to provide a more masturbatory user experience. I just couldn't. They called me AI ED.
In Dec, they laid off the entire Human Experience AI team in IBM Research. Not just a low performer or two - ALL of them. In CIO, I saw several other renown AI IBMers posting they were laid off as well. WTF?!
This is not a company investing in AI; this is a sign of a company running away from AI. Maybe because IBM can't hack it.
Maybe because its own internal AIs su-k so badly? I am talking to you AskHR and AskIT. Not that you'd understand; these AIs are d-mb as a doorbell.
Yes IBM is laying off a lot of top talent in AI. So yes there are AI layoffs - in reverse.
