No support. Not even micromanagement. But also no involvement in anything, including office politics. Literally absent. Some might call that the dream, but in reality it just means the team is unmanaged. And when we slip, we'll pay the price. Meanwhile, they'll keep climbing, blissfully unaffected.

@k3 gunny read this and immediately knew who you meant!
You work in SLG ISG as well!?
dream job for him/her/they/it
What did people expect with the “great flattening”? Problem is, in order for it to work, employees need to be empowered to make decisions and leaders need to be accessible. Neither is happening. We are actually more in fire fighting mode more now than ever. We are choking on process and this won’t go away with ODW. The more people we cut, the more process we have. They have the wrong leaders in place. That is clearly obvious.
my new manager picked up our group when our old manager was laid off. He knew nothing about what we do and was happy keeping it that way.
@OP Your manager sounds like every other manager at Dell - a total shiit bag
@an - can't come up with an original thought? Have to use AI as a crutch? At least learn how to mask your AI ramblings to make them look more human.
I was lucky, 2 of the 3 Managers/Directors were great. A lot of them are keeping their heads down and are below 'su-k' rating.
Managers at Dell are truly awful, but they are made that way by Dell's pointless org complexity and bureaucracy. They have tripled booked calendars full of non-value-add meetings. Any remaining energy is spent "managing up". Dell managers can be the busiest people on the planet despite accomplishing almost nothing.
@an You are SO WRONG! I'm guessing you're one of those shiity managers at Dell who constantly covers for each other. Here's the truth in business. Understand it well:
- Managers are paid to do their job
- Managers are paid way too much to NOT do their job
- You don't give the "benefit of of the doubt" to a manager who is not doing his/her job, YOU FIRE THEM!! Understand?
- Dell has some of the worst management and exec leadership in the industry. To prove it, ask any one of them to tell you 3 things they think you are working on. They can't do it.
- Managers who aren't doing their job need to be fired, not promoted simply because they're related to MD or other shiit leadership at Dell.
@an doesn't sound that way at all.
S/he is likely unmotivated, depressed, and unhappy — what more could one expect? Managers are also human, exposed to the same toxic Dell workplace, perpetual layoffs cycles, and unnecessary mandates — give the manager benefit of doubt and empathy.
Sounds like a dream after 6 years of telling my manager every time I need to go to the bathroom.
lol sounds like my manager
