Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Beginning of the Process? Bereavement Leave being Questioned.

HR is questioning my 10 day bereavement that I took last month. Is this normal or should I be worried that they are looking to include me in the next round?

Took bereavement twice in my first year. Never questioned and was not asked to provide documentation. 5 days twice within three months. It was brutal but felt that UHG benefit was generous and really did help process two unexpected losses.

Document! Document! Document! Save those emails from HR! If you are ever laid off at some point in the future, have an employment lawyer look over these HR communications. You may have a case for employment discrimination. Better to have the evidence now and not need it later on than to be kicking yourself later.

This is not the site for this!
Ruth! This is for layoffs!

@OP If you provided the documentation already and they are questioningit , then it does seem suspicious. If this is just the initial request, it is business as usual.

Company paid bereavement time for full time/non contractors is 10 days for spouse, domestic partner, pregnancy loss or child; 5 days for other eligible relationships (parent, grandparent). Not out of the ordinary for them to request documentation to support eligibility (states right in the policy that they can request this)- nothing to do with RIFs or potential for lay off.

Typical American leave is 3, if you are requesting 10, they may question. Nothing out of the ordinary. Make sure you keep your manager and skip informed.
