Thread regarding Optum layoffs

It's all our own fault

We're the ones who keep overextending ourselves to cover for those who are cut. We do it over and over again. If we all just stopped, they wouldn't be able to do this anymore. Work wouldn't get done. There would be consequences for their actions. As it is right now, we just keep rewarding them.

Set boundaries, prioritize and by all means accept the work but take time and do it right the first time.

@at

Think it through, even though that's hard.

Boss comes to you with a new chunk of work. You indicate that you are happy to pick it up once the in-process work is complete, or you can sideline some current work to address this right away.

You ask for prioritization of tasks and you work to that list. If you get a non-answer like "do it all", then you are free to do whatever work you'd like for your standard 8-hour work day. The rest will be there on a future work day.

Easy peasy lemon squeezy.

So what? They'll find any reason to do that anyway. Better to preserve one's physical and mental health than be an enabler of poor management.

Yeah sure let’s just NOT do the projects we are asked so we can then get fired. I rather be laid off and take my time and justify needing more time for my tasks because of the extra work. You can’t just refuse work here. I hate this company more than the next guy, you have no idea the hatred I hold, but I’m not going to refuse the work I’m asked to do. I’ll do it, but on my timeline.

No - you would be put on a PIP for not doing your work
