Thread regarding DXC Technology layoffs

Anyone in Europe willing to unionise?

I mean, why not. Many of us will either be laid off soon or will leave anyway. I am not counting on any raise, but why not try it? Why make it easier for them, if they are not doing it easier for us, what is the worst that can happen, we have nothing to lose really.

" I thought you cannot do sheeet it Germany where they have worker co"

this is not true,,however power and infliuence of unions in Germany is a two sided sword.

First of all, as a minimum prerequesite: about half of the employees must be member of the same! union. Then the union can start threaten, that they want negotiate a collective agreement (Tarifvertrag). But companies cannot be forced to sign, they can simply get other workers to help out. The downside for employees: If you become member of a union, you have to pay 1% of your gross salary to the union from 1.st day of your membership, even if they cannot do anything for you. You have to have a momentum, that 80 to 90 % of the employees is pis..., that they do not care anymore about repercussions. You also must be certain, that your work canot be moved to another country, because you woud be out of luck, too. Looking from history, IT industrie is too young, having just started in the 1990s. Factory workers have very high percentage of union workers, it is long tradition. If you start your apprenticeship with Daimler or Bosch, on first day your mates will give you contract to join the union. If you reject, you will "enjoy" very unpleasent time, until you leave

if you're in the uk, you don't even need to 'unionise' - the unions are right there waiting for you, they just can't do sh-t because nobody's in them so they have no bargaining power.
