Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Focus on what you can control

Work life and adulting can feel terrifying if you try to control everything, especially if you are early to middle phase in your career. Continue to do great at your role, irrespective of larger organizational challenges. Take care of your health and family. If you can, mentor a newer employee to give you a sense of legacy. After all is said and done, it is what you are remembered for that will linger.

I agree with you. The days of Human Energy are over at Chevron. They showed their cards in game when they decided to send our jobs to India. The best thing to do is learn everything you can, don’t trust people at work, keep your personal life private and go home when the day is over. Unfortunately , even after the reorganization there are too many 1st level and 2nd level managers that have fixed mindsets and still manage the old way. They do not have the skills to manage knowledge workers and Chevron management is not maximizing people’s skills as nd experience. The lower managers filter the filter do much the upper management cannot get a straight story to run the business efficiently.

You are just a cog in a huge wheel. I’ve seen legends move on and the wheel keeps going. Prioritize family and you health first. There is NO loyalty when it comes to corporate initiatives. Build you skills and pump that 401k/pension to give yourself more control
