Depends what level you are currently at.
Create shareholder value. The market always rewards value creators.
Well in the case of TK , big lips, compromising pictures of your boss and a lot of threats . Blaming others, being incompetent.
Speaking Hinglish is a good start.
A deep throat and a willingness to swallow
Assuming you are in a location that isn't subject to layoffs any time soon, you just keep applying. If your good at tongue punching their fartbox then you'll get the job. Otherwise they'll give it to the village id--t who can barely form a sentence, who is lazy and goes around reminding everybody when their own birthday is so you don't forget it.
@OP Be good at bs during an interview. WF interviewing process is horrid and if you get to the interview phase, your experience is pretty irrelevant. Been here over 15 yrs so I’ve seen a lot of people move around and I have rarely seen anyone truly deserving move up. Anyone who sees my resume wonders why I’m not further up and I have to sum it up to being cr-p at interviews. I’m not one to pretend to be what someone else expects or wants, not a butt kisser.
Kissing a$$
Honest answer - find a boss that's willing to go to bat for you. Every promotion I've gotten has been as a result of my direct manager fighting for it. That said, this has become rarer than heads teeth in an environment where everyone is in survival mode. Even if your boss likes you, there's just fewer opportunities for them to speak up on your behalf these days.
@ad In my experience here it is the exact opposite. So many “Seniors” who should absolutely be Associates.
I’d say this is a very pessimistic thread but this is the layoff. I hope the mentality of this thread is the popular one at Wells. It explains why raises and promotions have been so forthcoming for me. You make it too easy.
Wear sparkle boots and skip into meetings! 😬
You have to be Indian with an Indian manager(s). Bonus points if you came from Chase.
- Looking good in meetings by talking about high level new ideas, preferably sprinkle in popular keywords like “AI”but absolutely no understanding of the details. 2. beautiful presentation decks that project confidence but not grounded in reality or any degree of important details, 3. be seen by those in power, preferably establish private relationships off work, 4. never say no to your boss. It’s not about working hard but be seen by the right people in a “leader” light, but never waste time on actually doing anything productive.
In a low or no growth head count environment you need to move out to move up. In-place promotions are rare P4 or above. This is true everywhere, not just at Wells Fargo. Some companies even have a culture where you're expected to change groups every 24 months.
The best way to move up is to understand the expectations of a level above you and demonstrate that you can fulfill those expectations. "Do the job before youre given it" aka "try before you buy"
@ad I agree that external applicants get better offers, but in current times, if someone escapes this nightmare they would be literally insane to ever come back.
India residency is a requirement
poster @a6 pretty much nails it, yep
lack of a skillset
Ability to kiss xss
no integrity
lack of vision or a plan
Either what the first responder said or you have to post into a higher level on another team. Otherwise you can leave the bank and come back at a higher level but it’s risky. Getting promoted while in your current role is tough to do, and that’s ridiculous, because a lot of people at the ‘senior’ title level should be ‘leads.’
Same thing as at every other organization, especially dysfunctional ones. Your manager who wants you to go to next level, willing to put themselves on the line for you and has sufficient political capital to make it happen. Meaning they are either an MD/Executive level or have strong influence over their current MD. Anything else is a hope and wish.
