Remote work exception

Apparently, a family member having a medical emergency that requires someone to be present isn't a valid reason for a remote work exception! I learned my lesson, I'll just call off sick instead of giving a damn about this sc-mmy org.

@j5 #robinvince #bny - pretty sad that you create this environment for young professionals to start their career with..

@OP I did the same and they fired me.. it was the best thing that's happened to me in the past 20 years. That place is toxic beyond belief.. They could not care less about human decency

I’m an Analyst that started in August and I read a bunch of things about BNY on Reddit before I started, everything on there is 100% true and same with this forum. This place is terrible and I can’t wait to leave after my first year!!!! Won’t be looking back at all!

I'd a family member is a hospice who died and was told by my L2 manager that everyone has things going on in their personal lives and we all need to make our office days. This place is heartless.

You tried to do the right thing by being there for your family emergency and keeping up with your work responsibilities. Unfortunately BNY does not reward this and uses it against you. You should be able to raise exceptions for those days.

In future abandon work and use caregiver leave/sick leave. As they aren't flexible dont give them flexibility.

I was denied caregiver leave! My manager said “denied! We are too busy!”

way back when, a manager could just tell their employee to take the time, within reason, no questions asked. Now we are just treated as children and the managers powerless to do right by them except to work through the options that exist while making sure they don't get blindsided by RTO on the back end.

Sick days are allowable for certain things, family member medical procedures, etc... caregiver leave is also allowable. BNY could do a lot better towards it's employees, but not long ago caregiver wasn't even an option, which leave FMLA, but it's also a bad option. Good luck to you.

Folks in my team have used caregiver leave with no issues. See if you can change it. You usually have two weeks to fix an issue before it becomes an official problem.

Curious how many days in a row you needed to use? I used it for a couple weeks after returning from a trip cause I caught COVID and a few days here and there afterwards and haven’t had issues.

@OP

When my family member underwent surgery - I took 4 weeks off - 80 hours at 4 hours a day for 20 days. I had to be with her only in the afternoon as my spouse took care of her in the morning.

No questions asked. No exceptions. Nothing. Just Caregiver Time off

There are 100s of things wrong with BNY but this one, I think they are pretty accommodating

This is exactly what caregiver leave is for.

I went through this. There is no exception process. You can use sick days, caregiver days, vacation days, or FMLA. Forget trying to get a flexible work arrangement that allows you to be a caregiver. BNY does not care about you and HR is not your friend. Keep that in mind.

Caregiver leave. We get lots. Use it.

Also your manager is a tw-t if that wasn't a good enough reason for remote work.

Use Caregiver Leave. We get ten days per year. No need to take sick time.
