Thread regarding Verizon Wireless layoffs

Layoffs comming near you shortly

Just got off the phone with my AD and I was told April 23rd there will be a 10% RIF across all departments within Verizon. They are going after highest paid workers now NOT based on your PAD or time served in the company. My AD wanted me to help develop a plan to put into play with the reduced staff starting May 24th.

No one is employed by VZ for a long term any longer. Unfortunately, every day you work may be your last. At the end of the day, they see it as they owe you nothing and everyone needs to turn that around that you owe them nothing. Working 12 hours per day and overachieving will no longer keep you employed because your salary is probably and should be more than other team members if you have been overachieving. The salary places the bullseye on your back for being paid more because you achieve more. Or you may be laid off if they need more people within a specific age group or other criteria to prevent lawsuits. Pretty much not related to performance at all when being laid off. When they no longer want to provide packages, they will use your performance appraisal to set your targets that no one can achieve. Pretty much the only time that performance appraisals are truly used at VZ. Someone stated that the C suite is not even safe as evidenced by replacing Hans. Very poor example as he should have been replaced six years ago due to incompetence. Sampath left because he thought he would become the next CEO.

@16w You are replaceable even as a member of the C-suite as evidenced by the replacement of Hans and the departures of Shankar and Sampath. They should have started over from scratch with all of them.

@1qg what market / city?
Sorry to hear that. Unfortunately it will continue as capital wk will be farmed out and Mr. Dan isn't fixing the network. NCD / SCL's will dry up. Only to upgrade MMW and old 4G SCL to 5G Cband if absolutely necessary.
AI will take over the entire process and farm out the maintenance tkt to a national GC wkng with E// (depending on market) and also t/s BH ckts.
Sad but reality....

Well, we had 2 meetings scheduled for the 23rd with two different AD's one was at 8:00AM EST and the other was at 9:30 AM EST. Both have now been canceled and rescheduled for 11:00 AM with a combined meeting! Something is clearly up!

@1ag Maybe your AD is going on vacation? Kids prom? I honestly don’t blame you for being suspicious about everything they do. If they were more transparent we wouldn’t be glued to this site!

@a5

Lmao!!!! You're so full of sh!t!!!!! "Approved.. lists submitted"... "too valuable to lose" that hilarious! You have no clue what you're talking about. We hire an outside company to come in and run the entire peasant workforce through several algorithms. Each algorithm flags an employee based on it's specific credentials. The target number of rif'd employees determines the amount of algorithms used. For example, last November when we rif'd the 13k+ several algorithms were used. So if 1 didn’t flag an employee, there was another algorithm that would. Those who got flagged the most were the ones let go. We hire the outside "consultants" to eliminate or drastically reduce the liability on Verizon. This is done as a layer of defense against an employee claiming they were targeted.
As for the too valuable to lose line. That is the funniest thing I've read.in a long time. If you're not C-suite, then you are 100% replaceable. Don't think for 1 second there is any appreciation of loyalty for what you do. Don't believe me? Fine. Good luck

I’m also wondering about customer service and tech support reps.

@OP do you think tech support and customer service will be hit? I'm about 12 years in. Do you think I could on the done-zo list?

I wonder if this is higher ups, meaning managers, directors, or reps?

@db Do you know how to read a calendar? The OP posted dates that is for next week, not this week. Maybe taking a refresher in basic calendar reading skill would be in order?

"but there won’t be any announcements this week."

Doubtful at best. Your most telling clue is your dates. Perhaps you believe the lists are due according to your schedule, but there won’t be any announcements this week. Are you trolling, or do you not have the complete picture? Regardless, I don’t believe you.

This is true. Got approved last week and lists were submitted as to who is going to be cut. While mostly going after the highest paid they did have to make some exceptions in areas where they needed to keep certain employees who are too valuable to lose.
