The current leadership is making the same outsourcing mistake again. Some of the new management think outsourcing to India Engineers with a Cisco certification can manage our network for dirt cheap compared to an America.

They don’t realize the Verizon network is very complex. It’s not just Cisco equipment. Engineers are dealing with many different technologies, vendors, etc…. from different decades. Thus, the more experience an engineer they are (generally speaking) the more expensive they become.

Dan says the Verizon network is an asset. If he really believes that, the. He should treat it like an asset. Don’t put the cheapest engineer on your asset to fix it.

The main reason why bringing in newer cheaper guys doesn’t work because they lack experience on the Verizon network, and can know enough to be dangerous.

Many employees who have been around for decades know this, but most not say anything in fear of being on the next round of layoffs.

US employees are kept in the dark about everything until when it happens or perhaps even after it happens. I just received a job search update this morning. There were two jobs in the states, although I would have to relocate to New Jersey or Georgia.

The banner on one of our websites speaks fondly about integrity being at the core of who we are at Verizon. Which who, because I see a lot of behavior that has noting to do with individual integrity?

And what you are seeing is not the full ugly story.
Verizon is effectively hiding its true headcount. Since November, there’s been a surge in India-based contractor hires that are intentionally omitted from Workday and the organizational chart. This 'ghost' hiring strategy allows the company to slash roles in India without accountability while keeping US employees in the dark about the actual scope of international outsourcing.
