Thread regarding Edward Jones layoffs

I can't get proper feedback

I can't afford to be laid off so I'm doing all I can to improve myself, but the feedback I get changes depending on who I talk to or even what day it is. Something that’s fine one week suddenly isn’t the next. It makes it really hard to know where I stand. I feel like I’m constantly adjusting without ever actually feeling confident in what I’m doing. This is just worsening my anxiety, to say the least.

Layoffs have nothing to do with performance. Several people from my previous department who were laid off were stellar associates. They consistently received exceeding, had several licenses, were mentors for new associates, led several working groups, assigned to special projects, were in leadership positions of BRGs, etc. You are truly just treated as a number on a spreadsheet during layoffs.

I’ve felt this way since I came to Jones. Inconsistent feedback. Wishy washy answers. Constant ambiguity with no clarity. Corporate jargon. It’s a complete and absolute $hitshow. I’ll do what I have to in order to get by till they fire me or lay me off… I’m not giving anything more.

If you really mattered to your leadership, you would not be getting conflicting information. Key players always know where they stand. Start planning your exit.

They don’t want skilled employees. They want cheap labor in Hyderabad so DC doesn’t have to be the only ELT member making less than $20 million.

Some light thoughts from me, a Team Leader. Not sure if you’re an individual contributor or leader of associates but it really applies to both. You know you bring to the table. If there are some things that needed course correcting then course correct and document that. Check back in with the one that said you need to do X and show them how you are doing that; you can refer to what you accomplished. And be consistent in whatever that is. In addition, don’t overthink it. Use the time here to skill up best you can. For what it’s worth, I also can’t afford to be let go. Sometime that is taking on more but I have made a point to taking breaks. Work will always be here. There’s only so much we can do in a day and that’s ok. Wish you well!
