Seeing how horrible this company has become, and how badly BTC manages HR, people are going to be discreetly "involuntarily seperated" from the company. I've seen two Kearl MPT people get removed through constructive dismissal in one year before all this layoff stuff surfaced in September.

They can try, but with precedence cases it will be a tough fight in court for iol. Just dont sign any papers when u are given.

Looks like LOI may terminate its longest-serving employees for cause to avoid paying a large severance package. Between now and the end of 2028, there is a high likelihood to get 2 NSI strikes. If you have been in the same role for 3 years, just be careful.

@f3 Two PIPs is considered termination with cause. One PIP and if given a PIL option isn’t.

With this, I doubt any of our wage staff will ever consider taking a management role at any of our operating sites. That seems like the only safe position these days.

The email also says “minimum statutory severance” which is 1 week per year of service in Canada. We usually get common law 3-4 weeks/ year service. Wonder if that would hold up in court? Or would they terminate with cause?

@b7 From the email that went out, MLRP is Managing Lower Relative Performance. I assume this means NSI / PIP but not clear from the note.

With limited opportunities to do meaningful work going forward at affiliates outside of the US, this new rule paves the way for easier further attrition of Imperial Oil employees. For those who chose to stay the question is, are you really sure staying is the best option?

@b7 MLRP = managing lower relative performance. It's an HR/corporate term, not a Downstream term.

However, it may be helpful for OP to clarify what it means in actual terms. Is NI, NSI, or PIP considered a strike?
