Looking for real advice on steps to take in preparation for a possible layoff. What files/information to save, what resources to take advantage of while we still have them, etc. My biggest concern is a lack of medical and dental insurance for my family since I'm the one providing those benefits. Has anyone successfully negotiated an extension of benefits as part of their severance?

@OP personally get your finances in order too. Been through a layoff more than once and the best thing I ever did was pay off everything but the house!
If you speak with security you should be creating your resume on your personal computer and then emailing it to your work. Really no reason to send it from your work email to personal email.
If you’re serious about preparing, focus on education as other have mentioned, forget about the files, instead, start working on your resume at home and start applying to roles and explore other companies and roles you might be interested in and interview. Get up to speed on AI, as eagleGPT is basically AI on training wheels. This will be the best use of your time and in this job market you would need the biggest head start you can get.
No, there is no negotiating anything when it comes to your severance package, unless you’re EMG which most of the time that is negotiated on during the hiring process.
If you’re really worried about being impacted and losing medical/dental benefits, if you’re a bank employee, get out of bank ASAP! This “how we work” re-org currently going on has been a huge cluster fu_k and will just be getting worse with upcoming layoffs in Q2 & Q4.
For those impacted and received an extension, take the severance and RUN!
People, didn't you know that you can logon to your one source from your personal devices? You can access all your pay, reviews, and everything in one source from home and download everything. That's what we do with our W2's, right?
@cr it depends, what were they sending? You can’t get fired for sending your resume or personal accomplishments to yourself. Even your EOY reviews you’re allowed to send to yourself. I ask my manager/director every time if I can send it to myself for my personal records, the answer has always been yes.
@cr they got fired for sending themselves their resume or what exactly?
Yoooooo. Understand our security and privacy sharing policy first before emailing yourself anything. Someone on my team just got fired for this.
End of the day your next company doesn’t give a sh-t about USAA’s performance evals not that one certificate course you clicked through.
Take pics of your evals and job description and have AI help you write your next resume.
@ag 100% facts! If you think you might be hit in the next round of layoffs this year, start preparing now. A lot of bank employees were caught off guard in January. Once the phone call finishes, your access is completely removed, and it’ll be too late to register for any certification courses or classes to finish your degree.
For bank employees, it’s not IF but WHEN your name gets pulled.
@ag thank you, that was helpful. Any idea what the actual premium costs are or where to find them?
@ag great list!
Also, make sure you use your floating holiday and volunteer hours as those don't get paid out.
There have been a few post on here on what to do. Start getting as many certifications as possible, because if you sign up for them and do get impacted, USAA still has to pay for the course. If you’re in school, do what you can to finish your degree asap. Use your volunteer and floating holiday hours, as those are not paid out! Make sure to use the minimum 15 days PTO, because if not, USAA will subtract what you haven’t used. Medical & Dental insurance, no, the best you can do is COBRA which USAA pays 65% of the premium for 6 months.
Also, make sure your most updated resume is sent to your personal email, because you’ll lose ALL system access once the call is finished, so you won’t have time to email it to yourself.
Unfortunately when you’re in the meeting being told about your role is being eliminated, there is nothing you can say or do that will change the outcome.
