The new BNY term: “the ask”

It used to be “bandwidth” and “let’s circle back.” Now managers are saying “what is the ask” like crazy. Are they instructed from above to do this? Very stupid.

This company is simply one big ‘ask hole’ when you get right down to it.

Remember giggling loudly at Monday morning staff meeting buzzword bingo, and then having your manager leer at you?

@r7

HA!
Got that right.

The corny-azz signoff of "Best" is 2nd only to when people make that lame little heart shape with their 2 hands all bent around as if they're arthritics with cerebral palsy.

Bonus points for the fake smirk "grin" to go along with it, which ends up instead being a grimace.

And signing emails with, "Best"

Best what? Wishes? of luck? Western?

Ask is a verb, not a noun. Why do people use it as a noun? It makes them sound stupid.

They cycle through, then fall by the wayside.

Remember a few years ago, people in corporate-land began each sentence (especially when answering a question) with, "So..."

Before that, "Clearly..." was the trendy sentence-opening word.
Then, soon afterward, ending a sentence with the uptilted, "right?" became a thing.

It's all so trite, unoriginal, robotic, and tiresome.

They're humans who aren't secure enough within themselves to stand out as originally authentic people.

Instead, they hide behind groupthink and groupspeak.
Spouting off the latest "corporate cool" phrases, while earnestly hoping to be accepted as being "looped in"...lol. Don't forget the vocal fry!

What an id--t. People have spoken of the “the ask” in business for well over 50 years.

You‘re way in the back of the line dude.

We have been saying "ask" in the business management space since before covid. When I first heard it, I did think it was wierd.

Will "the ask" become a BNY pillar?

Does BNY still have pillars?

It’s in the grand tradition of corporate speak - making verbs into nouns.

Havent heard that one but yes sr. Mgmt pushes d-mb sh-t like this. Last year everyone was “agile” until you hated that word. This year they are pushing the word “AI” into everything discussed. Its ridiculous. We aren’t treated like humans or adults. We’re puppets and pawns and when they dont need us, we’re disposed of by any means possible

2025 and before: never heard this term.
2026: overkill with “the ask.”
