Thread regarding Fidelity National Information Services Inc. layoffs

Grow up

Some of y’all really need to grow up. Layoffs happen, it’s never personal. No-one at the top has specifically chosen you to go for any reason other than a number. FIS doesn’t owe you anything to keep you.

"It isn't personal" is so intellectually lazy. Depriving someone of their income is real personal. Depriving a family of financial stability, health insurance, a retirement plan with employer contributions (free money) is real personal.

It would appear that Stephanie's attorney scratched for every dollar in her contract. If she were deprived of any of it, it would be real personal to her although the proportionality is hardly the same.

You want to be personal? Sc--w with someone's living. That's as personal as it gets.

This, also, smacks of privilege from someone who is insulated from the financial strain that these changes are causing. It is easy to adapt this philosophy when the mortgage will be paid. When the children will eat, get their prescriptions filled or dental work done. Not everyone can rest easy on a bank account, family money or investment proceeds. It's not a failure, life can be really hard. Don't bring that a--holery here and expect applause.

Yes, things happen at work, but true leaders differ from this unattentive and unstrategic C-level of FIS in how they handle it. They communicate effectively with one laid-off employee while keeping another. A little empathy and appreciation go a long way. Your post falls short of that.

@OP Yes, layoffs happen, that doesn't excuse WHY the layoffs happen. It is completely valid to complain about mismanagement and unethical business practices that lead to low morale and low productivity.

It's incredibly arrogant and shows a complete lack of self-awareness to make a statement like this under these circumstances. Step off; allow employees to use this space in whatever way they choose free of your critique. This is not a hostage situation, no one is requiring you to show up here to comment. If you have another point of view to offer, do that in a less abrasive manner. No doubt you are a real treat to work with. Why don't you just STFU.

People who work for FIS are accustomed to frequent layoffs. However, we aren't accustomed to mass outsourcing to consulting firms while others get 90 days to train consultants to replace them. This is far more than a round of layoffs, people are allowed to feel angry about it.

Agreed. Lay-offs happen and they aren’t ideal. It’s horrible for the people involved but it’s a natural cycle of professional life.
