Severance shows up in your W2 as part of wages. Not on a 1099.

Its just regular income rate basically. Mine was withheld at 22% plus the social security aspect, so it was 29.xx% overall.

@a6 Not taxed as supplemental income, taxes withheld as supplemental income. It is taxed as income.

Pretty much the same as your regular salary (FICA tax included).
It is taxed as supplemental income. Do a search online and you will get a ton of information on the exact rate for both federal and your state. Ballpark for state and federal combined they will withhold 1/3 or more of you severance.
