Internal job postings

We have internal job postings all the time, but it’s becoming pretty obvious a lot of them already have someone in mind. People go through the entire process and then lose out to someone who seems pre-selected. Why even put it up if you already know who you're going to give it to?

That's been true since I started here 30+ years ago

@OP They do it to 'appear' fair and head off any legal trouble.

I was the beneficiary of a 'preselected job' and one of my friends told me how terrible and id--tic it felt that our boss and their boss made them interview people for a job that I was already doing while they were still interviewing.

Before applying to an 'internal' it is always worthwhile to reach out to someone one in the group to find out if the position is really open or if someone already has a lock on it.

Good luck.

Lots of job openings in India ever since the big Nov layoff.

Draw whatever conclusions you will with that info.

@cf no, sounds like you're just an entitled cry baby who can't handle the competition and clearly doesn't do well in interviews, but instead of reflecting and improving, you come to this board to talk sh-t about the process. I'm not saying it's perfect, but it's not hard to get new roles if you actually do the work. Grow up people

@bm you clearly are su-king the Verizon di-k. This was the biggest line of sh-t that is always fed to EVERYONE that was not selected.

Stop being butt hurt, everyone. Just apply for positions you want. It IS possible that you weren't the most qualified or the best fit for the team. Every interview is great practice so rather than come here and cry about it, do some self-reflection then ask the hiring manager for feedback to find out what you can do better or differently next time.

“Making” them interview people who definitely are not their pre-selected candidate is a waste of everyone’s time. I actually wish they’d just tap someone for a role and not give dozens of people false hope.

It is just an eyewash.. manager already has someone that will get the offer

First of all, they have to post it. Although I have seen people who aren't execs be appointed, but I don't think that can become a norm.

Second of all, nothing is a sure thing. I've seen multiple times where the person was already known, but that person was interviewing for other roles, too bc they were chasing a promotion, and they went with the first offer, which wasn't the shoe in, so the hiring managers selected someone else.

It can feel like a waste of time, but they're not all preselected and even when they are it doesn't mean it's a given. The best thing to do is learn about the team and people you'll work with and they can can act as sponsors without you even asking. Ask them what's important to the boss and then make your scenarios for the interview to suit their needs, and practice them over and over. Have something of substance. Tell a story, with numbers. V5e concise. It's not a casual thing. Competition is fierce, and you have to differentiate yourself

Welcome to corporate America since 1980. This is hardly unique at Verizon
