Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

How's everyone feeling?

Now that the weekend is here and the worst of it is behind us, does it feel like a weight’s been lifted, or are you still in a knot? I’m definitely in the second group. It’s going to take a while before I feel normal again. This kind of thing sticks with you for a while.

@j1 I once had a job that made me feel that way. The Sunday Scaries were a part of my life. I only stayed there a year and a half.

I can’t take it anymore. I’m falling apart completely. The anxiety and despair are so overwhelming that I feel like I’m slowly dying. Every day I wake up with a heavy sense of dread, my body aching and my mind shattered, as if I were battling a terminal disease. This relentless, soul-crushing stress caused by Oracle is destroying my health and my will to live.

@da That’s funny…if I would rather be at work the rest of my life? I’m glad you have the resources to live the rest of your life without working. Not everyone else does. Or…here’s a concept… maybe some of us enjoy the work we’re doing! (Gasp) But yours is a superior intelligence, so I guess I lose.

@g2

and no unscheduled slack messages

What's a scheduled slack message? Honest question.

More time for golf and no unscheduled slack messages or zoom meeting from my “nothing better to do so just want to chat 80 year old” manager, it’s priceless! And I get months of pay to do this! Life’s great!

@d6 and your comment comes up all the time too... " I’m now in a career with people and work that is infinitely better" you forgot to include that it pays more too.

The reality is that all jobs eventually su-k. They might be fun at first but that wears off fast. If you would rather be at work instead of enjoying the rest of your life than something is broken in your real life.

I see this exact same comment after EVERY RIF. Either learn to deal or get out. It’s that simple. I got RIF several years ago from Oracle and I’m now in a career with people and work that is infinitely better. Nothing stopping you from at least looking around. Good luck!

@c4 Sounds like a wise decision. This reallocation of capital will continue.

I made it past the layoff but I am seriously thinking about quitting anyway. This place is just too d-mb and dysfunctional, and I dont see future success here, either personally or in this market segment. I think the AI commitment was ill conceived and now we're sc--wed.

The new company pays me more than what Oracle paid, and we are building some new softwares. The knowledge they fired is used by other companies.

It's been 6 months (Sept. 2025) for me, and yeah while I do not miss the BS and am enjoying semi-retirement, I still feel wronged.

I will admit: any bad news regarding Oracle gives me immense schadenfreude.

Same as 7 months after being laid off. Sleeping well and having the tine of my life without having to worry about a meaningless job.
