Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Don’t be too hard on yourself

Just something I notice from working at Chevron over the years. A lot of Chevron employees are actually a lot more competent than their self-perceived level of competence. Most times, the smarter you are the more self-critical one can get because the tendency to question everything in itself is a core part of being intelligent.

Problem is, genuinely intelligent people do question thinks, and can often spot system failures. Both of which are things that are frowned upon at Chevron, so we get the pseudo-intelligencia climbing the ranks.

Spent too much time listening to extremely confident folks who if their ideas are allowed to go forward will only lead to fatalities. Not that they care along as they are recognised.

I admire those that ooze self confidence and are completely fu--ing wrong most of the time. I used to think it was a skill, but increasingly understanding it is an invincible vaucosness
