Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Fireside Chat

Who’s going to be the brave soul to ask if and when we can work from home or raise our salaries to combat high gas prices?? Thank you for your contribution :)

Rationing will come soon and WFH will be mandated via Federal edict. Tough times are coming. Possible nuclear exchanges. RV and his band of dimwits are the least of our concern. I don't think there is that much room in the bunker. He'll be cast out with the rest of us.

Yes I agree with you on the even playing field, but I doubt it played out the way the person said. PGH is too fragmented by function/reporting line to even have one person who could speak for all managers. One sr mgr probably told their employee over coffee or something “ah yeah the gas su-ks, if you wfh once in a while I’ll approve it” and that was that. Still not fair but hardly this bank wide conspiracy against the lower ranks. That’s what the post implied and I’m certain it’s not true in this case.

@bd
I’d agree with your point if the situation were truly a level playing field. However, it feels somewhat inconsistent to require direct reports to come into the office four days a week, comply with return-to-office expectations, and absorb rising gas costs, while their managers remain fully remote.

Gas was $5 a gallon in 2012 and salaries were much less back then. Tell me why you think this prevents you from coming to the office?

You're free to carpool or take public transportation if you want. I say this to both the manager and the low level employee. Come to the office, it's a dollar more per gallon max at this point. Thats not a reason to ask for an exception and I would not approve that if my employees tried it.

It truly seems like if even a slight adjustment to your status quo happens you think the company owes you an allowance to not show up at the office. I just saw someone else mention the NFL draft in Pittsburgh. Have none of you ever operated without your precious car right next to you at all times? It's your responsibility to figure out how to get to the office each day, you were hired for a job that happens at 500 Grant/Ross street in Pittsburgh. Show up or find another job that fits your desire not to leave your house.

Fun fact: upper management already told managers they can put in work from home exception once a week because of the gas prices but didn’t tell the other staff
