Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

It’s not going to be performance based

I mean, not really. Maybe on paper, to an extent. Paper is just the cover. It will be money based, without any long-term strategy, any concern for team cohesion and efficiency, and without any thought about talent retention. It’s the scrambling phase. Chickens coming home to roost for the string of bad decisions, driven by greed, grandiosity and mediocrity.

@cr You are as demented as higher oracle management. I wont even bother with proper arguments for the business because people like you are too stupid to understand. Aside the whole layoff thing, as it happens everywher its HOW IT was done. Some people got an email after 25 years of service. I wish you get one as well in the coming days.

i don't understand why Oracle employees are confused about the stack ranking (eg making the comments negative). As a manager, director and now a senior director, I have been doing it every year.

Its a 9-box grid and yes its in myO under my team links for career. Guys it literally happens. if you are a poor performer (inconsistent talent or mismatched) you are gone during a RIF.

If there are still more heads needed then its the manager's discretion. Last year there was a choice we had to make between a new college grad (non-US) or a tenured employee (US-based) and we chose the new grad to rif because we knew she would land on her feet quickly. The tenured employee had just been rif'd at another company before we brought her into Oracle, so there was some compassion applied here too.

The stack ranking is absolutely spot on. All managers had to submit their stack ranking at the end of February. Any employees designated as mismatched or inconsistent talent were designated for RIFs.

Are they looking at tenure or just the last few quarters? Can you look for other internal roles ?

@a2 you're silly. As someone who has been through many oracle layoffs it's always team or org based. If you team isn't effected then you are fine.

@a2 very accurate. If you do not have been a bottom 25% performer on your team, you are likely gone. Especially if you do not have a great relationship with your manager. A great relationship can likely save you if you meet that criteria of being bottom 25% on your team. But still not a guarantee.

It’s not a charity. If you perform and make shareholders/Oracle money, you have nothing to worry about. If you don’t perform, and do not justify your salary, you are gone.

I don’t recall using 9block as a people manager in this company. Another company yes.

If you were ranked a low performer you are gone.

Then it's different areas of the 9-box grid - this is what Oracle managers use to stack rank their team. Stack ranking is generally done on performance, historical performance reviews and if you have a solid relationship with your manager/roll up manager. If you are a top performer theres a very good chance you wont be RIF'd (not a guarantee).

Its just that simple.
