Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

What really stands out about the culture here

After riding out the usual industry cycles, one thing that keeps standing out is how the "We Lead" behaviors aren't just words on a slide deck. they actually shape how things get done day to day.

Even during last year's necessary adjustments, you could see it in action: leaders at every level stepping up with clear direction, owning outcomes, and keeping teams focused on what matters most. No panic, no mixed messages .. just steady, confident guidance that helped everyone stay aligned and move forward. It's the kind of strong leadership culture that turns tough moments into proof that the system works.
What's been especially noticeable since then is how things have sharpened and improved. The focus feels even tighter, collaboration is smoother, and there's a renewed energy around delivering results. Teams are moving faster with clearer priorities, and that consistent "We Lead" mindset: taking initiative, holding ourselves accountable, and supporting one another has really taken root in the day-to-day. It creates this quiet confidence and sense of shared purpose that makes the work feel more purposeful than ever.

Definitely one of the biggest reasons the Chevron culture feels special and worth staying for. Curious if others see the "We Lead" principles showing up the same way, especially in how the organization has come through stronger on the other side.

I’m Have not heard such absurdity since the agile rollout disaster! Chevron leadership has been like a boat with no rudder and a dozen left hand oars for years now. Our leadership performance is nothing to celebrate. Show we one industry downturn when our leadership stays the course because our plan is already solid, show me one frontier basin in which we were leaders in defining new plays, or show we one reorganization that actually improve work efficiency: then I will applaud leadership. Right now there is not even one hand clapping!

So clearly HR nonsense. I'm guessing HR employees are forced to listen to this drivel continually. Maybe this is ENGINE indoctrination?

Where were the “we lead” behaviors when it took almost twelve months to show employees an org chart of the restructure?

Where were the “we lead” behaviors when, during a time of uncertainty, leaders provided absolutely no useful information to employees?

Where were the “we lead” behaviors when job listings and descriptions were being changed during the selection period with no notice or explanation?

Where were the “we lead” behaviors from staff in low cost geographies when they ghosted their direct reports for months, when the leaders found out their jobs were safe and their direct reports were expendable?

Eww so tone deaf.

When is the next employee sentiment survey or are you too scared to get real feedback…

Although if you stop measuring, then you can make it up in your head and tell yourself everything is great!

Okay, I'm just gonna put some respect on the trolls name. Botted up votes and low level trolling about DEI and WFH were boring, but this level of AI corporate-speak schitzo posting, complete with equally wild AI replies is kind of a treat. It noted the waning enthusiasm, and really stepped up the trolling game. Well played. Some people on here will continue to think the troll actually works at Chevron, or is sincerely saying any of this stuff, and that just makes me chuckle these days.

100% agree with this post. As someone whos been deep in the trenches on the cyber security side, its been really satisfying to watch the We Lead behaviors manifest so clearly in practice.

Even during last years adjustments, you could see the principles in action across the organization. Leadership provided clear consistent direction without any signal noise or scope creep they owned the outcomes, maintained strong alignment, and kept everyone zeroed in on critical priorities. No FUD, no mixed messaging, just solid executive sponsorship and steady governance that helped us all stay on mission.
Post adjustment, the improvements have been measurable. Priorities are better defined (almost like a refreshed OKR framework), cross functional collaboration has lower friction, and theres noticeably higher throughput on deliverables. The We Lead mindset proactive initiative, personal accountability, and mutual support has really propagated through the teams. Its created this quiet operational resilience and sense of shared purpose thats genuinely energizing.

This is exactly why Chevrons culture feels like a strong environment worth staying in long term. The way the organization operationalized those behaviors during a challenging cycle and came out tighter on the other side is impressive.
Appreciate the thoughtful write up. Curious if other folks in IT / OT security or infrastructure have seen similar positive shifts in how things are running lately

Man, I gotta say, you hit the nail right on the head with this one.
Out here in the field, we’ve rode out plenty of these ups and downs, but I’ll tell ya what that 'We Lead' stuff ain’t just some fancy words they put on a poster. You could see it plain as day last year when things got tight. Our leaders didn’t lose their heads, they stepped up, gave us clear direction, owned what needed owning, and kept everybody pulling in the same direction. No yelling, no flip-flopping, just steady hands on the wheel. Made a tough stretch a whole lot easier to get through.

Now things are smoothing out real nice. Work’s getting done quicker, folks are talking to each other better, and there’s a good energy going again. You can tell people are taking initiative, watching out for their own stuff, and backing each other up like they should. That 'We Lead' way of thinking has really settled in out here.

That’s why I’m proud to keep showing up every day for Chevron. It feels like a solid outfit that actually lives what it says. Not every company does that.

The WeLead in cvx IT by the LT is “ follow us into a ditch”, “we do not want your input….”
