Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

When they close the big offices guess what?

They may no longer be obligated to WARN in those states locations with 50+ employees, so VZ won't have to pay the additional money to keep them around doing nothing for a extra 30 or 60 days. It makes it cheaper to do layoffs after this is done, harder to count and trigger the thresholds.

I don’t give a sh-t about WARN if the trade off is working from home.

@a1 Do you have any concept of how WARN even works? Has absolutely nothing to do with taxes. Ask AI and learn something new.

Employer can ask an employee to relocate to a different state, and they can make relocation a condition of continued employment. Refusing such a request generally allows the employer to terminate employment, subject to the terms of any existing employment contract

Some truth to this. Regardless, WFH makes layoffs easier.

They would have to move the work out of the state not just the building

They're still considered employees in the state cuz they're paying taxes in said state so it goes by where their payroll is not where their butt is. Do you think the people working from home all of a sudden stop paying taxes?
