I learned recently severance was not legally mandated. I honestly thought it was, because, why would they pay us to leave if they didn't have to? So now I can't get that out of my head and wonder what if they really decide that severance is not something they want to bother with?

@a2 They aren't going to sue people. Just stop with the cr-p on Linkedin. Don't thank Verizon for anything.
@a9 Exactly right, lawsuit prevention.
not in EMEA, there'll be another French Revolution before that happens ;-)
In NJ, if you get laid off, NJ requires they pay you 1 week for every year and you do not have to sign for that portion. It also is paid on the next regular pay date
They can say your layoff severance was remaining employed with Verizon. So it was technically a working severance. That’s what they did to the HCL folks.
They can always reduce the severance, but pretty unlikely they would eliminate it. The severance isn't given out of compassion or generosity - it's lawsuit protection. Signing the severance agreement includes clauses that you won't sue the company, or disparage the company in public. Why do you think so many "class of 2025" members posted "thank you for the opportunity" type posts on Linkedin? They couldn't say what they REALLY think, because they'd risk their severance payout.
Yes, and we will. There were folks working on the next round then laid off themselves that have spilled the tea. Lower payouts, and even no payouts. Many in sales channels are being squeezed out by unattainable quotas and ridiculous PIP processes (I.E. Mid Markets having a 30 day PIP process, with 90 days to get off, even if quarterly targets are hit). This place is a sh*t show. If an opportunity comes up, I’d recommend you take it and GTHO.
Yep.
