Thread regarding Paramount Global layoffs

RTO Phase 2 email

They should be sent out before EOD today. It's going to be a good news for many.

@11m Thats about 3 days per week to stay above the cut line. I can live with that. Barely anyone comes in Monday and you feel like a su---r working in the office on an empty Friday.
The only way the company cures that is by threatening EVERYONE into coming in on Mondays and Fridays. And they wont.

@11m And which 50% were they targeting? Low performers ill bet. How did they weed out the exemptions when employees from NJ weren't coming in for most of Feb and March because of the NJ Transit construction? People STILL arent coming in and construction is over.

Do those managers get flagged themselves for not coming in 95% of the time?

@11g Managers HAVE received stats and anyone not coming in 50% of the time have been flagged.

@11e Surely you’re kidding. They wont officially back off RTO for phase 1. What they will do is not hand out punishments for those that choose not to show up 5 days a week. They havent allowed managers to see the stats yet, so only HR and the corp rulers know how well it’s working. But come in on a Friday or Monday and you’ll figure it out.
Work remote when you feel like it. No one is coming to punish you.

@b6 "Most positions were rehired" - you have no idea what you're talking about

I’ve only heard from teams exempted from RTO phase 2 (or postponed to 2027). What orgs will actually be returning to office on September 14?

@b6 yes, it was about laying off people. You have any doubts? I do not see how the fact that not everyone volunteered among the ones that they wanted to and conversely not everyone who they needed to stay did in fact stay proves otherwise. It was imprecise tool, and they needed to cut and polish some corners afterwards.

@b3 We are talking about people who left because of RTO Phase 1, you are talking about layoffs. Do you even understand the conversation? You insinuated that RTO Phase 1 was about "laying off" people, which is not true. As highlighted, most positions were rehired.

@b2 not true what exactly? That people was laid off at the end of 2025 without even being presented with a choice? Do you even work here?
Of course some people volunteered and they had to re hire these roles that they still need. Duh.

@b1 Not true. All the Phase 1 people that left I was able to rehire the positions just had to be in NY or LA.

If anyone from phase 1 (both who are still here and who are not) still believe it was about RTO and going to hold the grudge against phase 2 - you are id--ts. This was never about RTO. They needed to make layoffs and they made them. Having some people back to the office is just a nice side effect. Who are still employed - you can go WFH tomorrow and nobody will do anything to you. Who are not employed any longer - sorry, but be real. You would not have had a job by now RTO or not. One way or the other they were going to lay you off. People were laid off at the end of 2025 without being in the phase 1.
Stop doing exactly what they wanted you to do and directing your bitterness and resentment against people who are in the same boat as you.

I told you the email was coming with good news for remote people. Everyone voted my comment down and gave me sh*t for not giving details. I will keep the news to myself next time. I am not remote, but happy for those who are.

@ap Phase 1 wasn't really about RTO, the execs wanted to make the layoff process easier for the company, they saved money having employees offer to be layed off, otherwise they would have to pay out more money. Now anyone who stuck it out can go back to being hybrid, becuase no one really cares at the top.

Looking at the sheet they shared there does appear to some people allowed to wait till 2027 but it's not in specific towards who

I bet nothing happens if the Phase 1 folks start WFH again. The emperor is buck na--d.

If the RTO policy is relaxed for phase 2, all the phase 1 people who had maybe 12 days to decide whether to take the package won't appreciate that at all. I lost 2 long time members to that arbitrarily rushed decision, and we are a small team. We very much still feel their absence.

I'm curious what the phase 2 verbiage will be.

They enacted RTO real quick after the purchase. They’ve dragged their feet big time for phase 2. It’s a joke.

They sure do like dragging their feet around her with those sort of announcements. It's as if they enjoy being sadists. I'm fine either way, just announce the damn decision already. They like making everyone anxious. Having all the $$$ in the world is not enough for them. They want you to know it and make you suffer.

I would also hope that means Phase 1 is relaxed for Streaming?

@a3 no reason given. But I assume it’s to avoid a cluster since there are a ton of people no where near an office.
