Thread regarding Cigna layoffs

What exactly happens if a someone does not take the Voluntary Retirement Program? Laid off anyway?

This happened to my team mbr. IIRC he was in his 70s. During the final meeting, he said he enjoyed the work and he literally said he wanted to work longer, but he got the hint from the VRP.

What would have happened if he didn't take VRP? Laid off anyway the next round?

Does anyone know if the VRP offers will come back around or are they done with them? Wasn’t eligible last time.

I was offered the VRP last July and did not take it. I was 61 at the time. Too young for Medicare. Had been here for 39 1/2 years. I was eliminated on 1/29. I know I had a target on my back. So sad to see what's happened with Cigna these last 3 years

He may or may not have been let go in a future round of eliminations just like anyone else. I believe he made a mistake thinking it was a hint. They did not target down to the individual, they offered it to chosen orgs/groups, if you were in those groups and met age, time in service and band level requirements, it was offered to you.

I know a few who denied the summer round who are still here, where others on the team (under 55) were then let go. The numbers do not support the theory that if you deny it, you are gone in the next round. 4,000 or so in the summer round refused the VRP, not sure how many thousands refused the January offer.

It's a personal choice, I think it's a good program, and would be happy to take it if offered to our group. (I did try asking for it, that didn't work). While this is new to this company, it's been a common tool used for years in many companies.
