Thread regarding Paramount Global layoffs

unchecked behavior

talking to friends in several departments and noticing a trend of some managers and directors using the current uncertainty and fear and they are taking advantage of having a longer leash than usual. i.e. the difficult ahole you try to avoid has somehow become an even bigger ahole and its going unchecked.

Accountability feels like it's going one direction lately when it comes to professionalism and borderline workplace abuse. to make things worse, some "leaders" are aware that it's hard for staff to even flag these management behavior issues when the company is already in crisis mode and we are all just trying to keep our heads down so we can keep paying rent and put food on the table.

I saw something that never would fly in any other workplace setting and people are either too concerned to cause issues or they are so beaten down they dont bother.

Hard to stay focused as it is. Some of these people in leadership roles are past professional training and need to be held accountable. if you're in a role where you can report things without getting into trouble, do it. that problematic and unbalanced dipsh-t becomes weakened when people come forward together.

@sc this company loves keeping lazy workers - because the fact they can be laid off at any given time and they know it - so they become controlled a-wipes
These lazy useless people become insurance padding for the other people - this company generally lays off the talented hard workers - because they are a threat to the herd. Management wouldn't know who the good or bad workers are - they only know who kisses their butt or not. This is true especially in the union groups where the shop steward etc. are the ones who ultimately choose - especially if for instance - you work in "the field". The higher ups have no idea about talent they can't see at work. The other option is just firing whoever makes the bigger salary - you have to be kidding if you think management has a clue as to eveybodys work ethic - unless by some small chance a senior manager worked their way up the ladder in the company and is aware of who pulls their weight.

This sounds like RR on the CRM team. He's just a complete a--hole on every meeting.

@ft Great idea. AI is going easily find and weed out the most lazy and less contributing employees instantly - there is your 6bln in savings right there.

There are a lot of toxic incompetent execs at this company who go unchecked.

@et don't know why that gets a thumbs down . It's true + if guy A harasses girl B and bystander C makes the complaint without girl B making a complaint - then bystander C just labeled themself a troublemaker & snitch and a bigger liability

Um if you make a complaint against somebody for harassing another - and that other person doesnt even complain . Then you're in big Doo Doo

The former HR president under Les Moonves was forced out because she was one of several execs (including security vp) who were blindly protecting him. Also, whoever is saying to report it immediately or "follow protocol " isn't in that person's shoes. Following protocol for most union employees is to complain to union Reps first - which as stated previously - are in bed with management .

@dq If you witnessed someone getting abused or anything that violates....You are going to stay quiet?? Thats a serious problem.

First of all know that Human Resources is NOT your Friend. Second of all Complainers get skewered - they let go the most likely liability - NOT who is right or wrong. Third, get a lawyer - your employee Reps are in Bed with the Management .
Action to take: document everything - video & audio etc, regardless the company policy not to do so. Witnessed won't back you up unless under oath.

If you saw something that was problematic. Why aren't you reporting it? Take the first step and follow protocol.

I’d say it goes both ways, as a manager it’s incredibly hard to motivate, and manage expectations, and has been for a long time now.

With a persistent fear of layoffs, the RTO debacle across both phases, and projects that are making our jobs redundant. It’s impossible to hold anyone accountable across IC’s and managers. Everyone is looking out for themselves, particularly in this job market.

agreed that some people have gotten totally out of control, but as for holding them accountable: how? we barely have an HR department anymore. this is the culture now.
