Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Whatever you think might save you - it won't

Veteran. High performer. Unique skillset. None of it matters. It's about the money. Skill and experience cost more, so they'll keep the slacker and cut the person who actually knows what they're doing. Meaning all that hard work you put in? That was for you. This company was never going to appreciate it.

I am so happy while I was consulting for Oracle I learned other things esp how to invest. That place su-ks and it’s the worst place to work. There are places that care about employees. I’ve worked at several since leaving. I actually hope Oracle goes down further and further and all mgmt get let go

It’s about the money - yes. Oracle gets rid of high performers and keeps slackers - not true, they will try to hold top talent when possible. If you have a team of superstars then some good resources may go unfortunately. There’s a lot of BS in these posts and many people state opinions as facts.

Yup. It is all about money.
1x US based employee = 3 -to- 4 in low cost country.
Probablility of hiring someone smart is also good.

I have known many highly skilled Oracle veterans who have been let go.
While the loss can be felt for a few years, they know that skills can be built AND there are always skilled developers that can assist with high level escalations.

Facts. It's crazy. Talking to a buddy who just got let go....well...not from Oracle...his help desk team all got let go..."disbanded...help desk being sent to Mexico City..." and I was like "it's all about the dollars....not you...." I know so many companies who have done the same, quality suffered and they broughts folks in the US back, but he's help desk so I said just take them for all the insurance coverage you can, use your PTO, sit back and chill, apply to jobs...and don't look back. Life is really too short.
