Thread regarding Elevance Health (Anthem) layoffs

Moving pulse point locations

Hello all! I am waiting for my manager to return from PTO so thought I would ask her till then as I am freaking out. My current assigned pulse point and where I live is Indy. However, my husband matched for a residency program in Galveston, TX. That is very near Houston tx which is why my husband applied there but that pulse point suddenly closed. Do you think the company will understand and let me be fully remote?

If your team is looking for cuts, they will not approve it. You are a free RIF. In a RIF, you might not have been picked, someone else would be, but they would have to pay that person to leave. If they tell you that you can't do this, they know you will leave, especially if your hubby has already committed to his new location. They will see it as a win and a financial savings accomplishment on their next quarterly review.

My coworker tried this and was told her pay would be lowered to match the pay in the new state. She did not move. This was in GBD appeals.

Managers have no control over this. This decision is fully HR. You can explain the situation but in all likelihood, you will not be approved to move. Or like another poster stated, if approved, you will not be eligible for promotions/change in role, since that office is now closed.

@OP You will likely have to petition for an exception. I have heard that people have done that and been successful. It may take some time though.

@OP they will let you go fully remote, but you will have no options to change roles or be eligible for promotions.

@OP - Can cats fly in the sky like birds do? Well, then I think you got your answer.

From what I have seen/heard, it will depend on how critical your job is to the company and how tight you are with your manager as to how hard they will go to bat for you to get management above her to approve it. Good luck! I know in my case, I would receive a hard no regardless of the situation.

I’d just start applying at UTMB

@OP I agree with other posters. HAVE A BACK UP PLAN. There was a person on my team that moved and her new location was not within the 50 miles from pulse point. She had to resign as they would not grant her a waiver.
Especially in this time where Elevance is cutting staff at an alarming rate, I would think the likelihood of them being flexible is slim to none.

I would have a back up plan - agree with other poster, it will have to be approved by several levels. Hopefully they will allow your relocation. FYI there is precedence for allowing it I know it happened to other people that relocated and then shortly the office nearby closed. Sadly it depends on your manager and if they are willing to go to bat for you

If you are currently in a hybrid role, you will have to discuss with your manager, and they will have to bring it up the chain of command as this would be something that higher up and HR would have to approve. I don't believe anyone here will be able to tell you one way or another if they will switch your role to remote only. I would for sure have a backup plan.
