Looking at our current structure, it feels like the 'manager-to-grass root level employee' ratio has drifted toward an unsustainable level of middle management. multiple layers of management, which creates a 'bottleneck of consensus' rather than a bias for action. To save cost and be competitive, Oracle need to flatten the org chart, empower individual contributors to make decisions, and reduce the number of 'status-update' layers.

There's a realignment coming for the managers - some will be laid off, others will be moved to IC.

All you have to do is look at Aria or Connections to see how bloated this company is. Have a manager with 2 reports, that reports to a director who reports to a VP, that VP reports to another VP who reports to an SVP, and that SVP reports to an EVP, and then reports to Clayton or Michael, I've seen VPs with no one under them and it bogles the mind what the efff is it that they do. But as usual, it will always be the honest hardworking American that will get the shaft. Just like last September.

The replies so far indicate the real problem with Oracle. Everyone has a different opinion of the root problems and this is probably true all the way up the management chain. A common problem in older tech companies. When the company started it had one product and a clear vision to make it the best in the market. All the employees knew this and were focused on accomplishing this goal. Fast forward 30 years, you have the base product you started with along with a bloated product line and no clear direction on what is important. There have been acquisitions along the way and new ventures into new businesses to add to the loss of priorities. The theme now is to make more money for LE so he can buy a new island to spend time with his latest wife who is nearly a half century younger than him.
@OP there never used to be this huge amount of SVPs, managing more SVPs. IMO think it's more top heavy.
There’s a whole host of processes, reporting, and such cr-p that have been added over years. This army of middle mangers is needed to keep this afloat.
See what happens to the IC3/4/5, when you remove the middle managers but don’t purge these processes…
Not really. There are a ton of ICs who had no value
There’s a TRB done every year - at least 5-10% of ICs are needs improvement
The expectation is that engineers are no longer required and managers can do the vibe coding.
