Thread regarding TIAA (TIAA-CREF) layoffs

Annual layoff at TIAA / Nuveen

Turns out there was actually a real annual layoff recently, not related to the Coffee Badging thing, even though this enforcement accelerated greatly and many people were laid off for that too.

But it is odd that the annual layoff where people were let go for cost cutting reasons from the company didn't make waves on this forum at all.

@er "If they are going to fire people for working 4-5 hours a day then half of the Charlotte office would be fired. Many people are in the office around 9 and leave by 1."

I would fire all of them. No one works like this in NY and NJ.

@fy My view is irrelevant. This is a reality in today's economy and unless you are a pathetic loser, you will commute to the office and stop whining.

Anyone who is anti work from home is a boomer or 50+.

It is proven that there are many successful people who work from home. You don’t need to sit in a cubicle to be successful.

I wonder if people who are whining here on a daily basis about the horrors of being in the office 3 days a week actually have any skills or prospects? I have a feeling that these are actually losers, who cannot get any decent job anywhere.

@er "Management should have no issues if someone is working half the day in the office and half at home."

I would not be OK with that. Why?

before Covid it was common to work 5 days a week in the office. It's much more efficient and better for productivity and morale. If you cannot get you butt to the office 3 days a week, you are probably not worth keeping.

Management should have no issues if someone is working half the day in the office and half at home. If they are? That’s not a company I want to work for. This isn’t 2019. It’s 2026. Time to get with the times.

It’s sad but that’s always been the Tiaa way. They can’t get out of their own way because they focus on silly stuff. So much knowledge has been disposed from this company because they think we are an easily replaceable commodity. More and more mistakes are being made and it takes longer and longer to accomplish anything

@a7 yes, heard from several people, including managers, that a lot of people were fired for coffee badging specifically. The actual criteria is still vague and unknown. On this site, there was info that they ran reports for whoever worked less than 2 hours on average per day in the office and those people were fired (even when they had good ratings or were considered valuable for projects etc), but one person here wrote that he worked 4-5 hours daily 3 days a week from 7am and until lunch and he was also fired. Which indicates that the coffee badging criteria is wider than just 2 hours or less.

Do we know pf or sure if people were fired for coffee badging? Or was it just the layoffs?

Seems to me that the firings for coffee badging were targeted in order to hit more people.
