Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Tell Dell …. is it truly anonymous?

There’s so much I’d love to submit in the next Tell Dell opportunity, but how “anonymous” is it?

Assume you can be tracked.
Anything you criticize management about, make sure you haves documented proof.
Make sure criticisms are respectful. (Run it through a sentiment checker in AI to make sure it could not be construed as a threat to yourself or others.

If you don’t complete it honestly then management will assume everything is just fine and it will be more of the same.

It's as anonymous as management allows it to be. They can technically hunt down the information itctajef to link you to your server but ut takes time and effort, which are things Dell managers have a short supply of.

  1. Do you agree that the information contained in the database associates your name with your survey responses? If so, then by definition this is NOT anonymous.

  2. Do you agree that the unique link helps ensure that people don't take the survey twice? But do you also agree that the unique link is also stored in the database, which associates your name with your survey results? If so, then by definition it is NOT anonymous.

  3. Do you agree that Dell could retrieve your information if they ever needed to for things like legal discovery, etc? For example, if someone said something really stupid like made a threat or something, which has happened before. If so, then by definition it is NOT anonymous.

True anonymity severs any connection between the user, user ID, employee number, etc., from existence. It never creates them in the first place - no logs, no db entry, no links, no memory, nada. That's not the case here by virtue of the way it is created, distributed, and stored.

It is NOT anonymous by definition, End of Story.

It very well could be anonymous, but since its sponsored by Dell, I act under the assumption that there's zero integrity in tne entire process.

It's anonymous until they want to know who posted it.

Tell Dell is a good opportunity to correct any wrongs and it scares the he-l out of any manager with little integrity. You are asked to give your honest opinion, so best give it and management cannot punish you for it. Stick to one root cause individual and give good general examples. If a few other colleagues also give similar honest feedbacks then a change has to happen

Yes, it is. Regardless of what people tell you, I used to manage the data and I was not in HR. I couldn't even see origin emails. That is intentional and we worked directly with the outside company.

@c7

The links are unique in order to prevent someone taking the survey multiple times, and is also needed to be able to track answers by org/manager etc. etc.

"As a manager, all you have to do is put in a request and they will tell you who made what comment. That's a fact!".

That's pure bullsh-t.

Not to mention the complete GDPR nightmare and legal risk to both Dell and Perceptyx if employees are told that answers are confidential and the data would be shared anyways. Forget it.

@OP Oh God, here we go again. If anyone thinks the Tell Dell survey is anonymous, they shouldn't be working in this industry.

I can guarantee you from personal experience that it is 100% NOT anonymous!!! Why do you think the link is unique? It is unique to you and links your survey responses in the database. Yes, it is run by a 3rd party but that 3rd party is paid by Dell. Who do you think they're going to answer to when an executive or manager wants to know who said what?

As a manager, all you have to do is put in a request and they will tell you who made what comment. That's a fact!

Employees - don't be so naive. Don't believe the lies and propaganda. For a company that spies on its own employees with forced spyware monitoring tools, do you really think this survey would be anonymous?

Trust me when I tell you, it is 100% NOT anonymous!

It is but use AI to write comments. The comments are the only way to tell who it is.

It is anonymous but they also let the leadership read the comments, just with your name redacted. But 9 times out of 10 they can tell who wrote what just based on the comments or how someone writes, everyone has a fingerprint to how they communicate. So, be very careful. I always wrote very thoughtful constructive comments, but also heaped a lot of underserved praise on my leader. It served me well.

In the Tell Dell summary that managers get there is no data around who answered, it's basically an aggregate of the scores the team put in. The only individual answers the managers see are the free text field questions, and there are no names attached to those either.

I can really only think of three different scenarios where you could be identified:

  1. You write in a way (choice of words, structure etc.) that's pretty unique to you.
  2. You write about something that only you could know about, making it pretty obvious who supplied the feedback

and last but not least, 3. If you happen to be the only one in a team speaking a specific language and you choose to submit your answers in that language (the report will show original answer + auto-translated version, if the answer is not in English)

No. I would advise you to not even bother completing it

Maybe it is but I wouldn't trust that it is... I always mark everything as low as possible except for my manager - who is AWESOME! - but I never leave comments on anything.

This year however, because I have a new manager who SU-KS, I will be marking him as low as possible.

It's not anonymous. Just mark all 1's, no comments.
