Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Is WellMed getting hit again?

Does anyone know if any teams outside of the clinics are getting hit again? I’m work in corporate but all I keep hearing about are the clinics closing or merging.

Wellmed started in San Antonio. The heart of Wellmed is broken. Dr. Rapier has sold us out. Morale is non-existent. So many of us are looking for other jobs. Sad reality of Corporate Medicine. We are just numbers.

It’s a bad sign when the bathroom they have is out of order for the last month and the only other bathroom available is being used by both patients and staff. Nasty.

Kelsey Seybold hired some of the Wellmed providers and MAs. Most of Wellmed Houston area clinics were closed in December . No communication from anyone on future plans . Kelsey laid off a lot of people in the last 2 years reportedly due to Optum changes.

Wellmed- just this week a Wellmed with just one patient seen. Place is huge yet was empty and staffed with 4 receptionist, 3 others I assume placing orders and one medical assistant. They are losing money.

@dy My guess is Wellmed employed will go the way of the Houston clinics - gone. Contracted, skeleton crew of support until those docs figure out to contract with someone else - that'll take a year. Affiliates are already without support and will go back to United next year for sure. Wellmed will be effectively defunct in Texas this year IMO

@bj why? What makes you say this

The operations team is going to do something unusually d-mb - moving to one MA per provider. That might work for traditional practice but will not for Medicare Advantage. Once word gets out I think we lose a lot of MAs as well, going to be a bad time in the employed clinics

I've only heard of owned clinic closures and mergers. From my standpoint...WellMed is likely done with the majority of RIFs for now. New positions and an entirely different approach and frame work have been created. I can't imagine all that work would have been done without an end goal somewhere. Will it all collapse in the end a year from now??? maybe??. It's hard to say.

@ag What the he-l are they doing? Now they’re going for Optum clinics???? STOP allowing all these acquisitions ! If you are going to allow them regulate them somehow so they don’t keep buying these companies and dismantling them and putting thousands of people out of work.

Also in WellMed corporate: I’ve noticed an uptick over the past two to three weeks of back-end WellMed operations and processes merging with/deferring to existing UnitedHealth systems.
