Thread regarding Ford layoffs

I was issued a Performance Improvement Plan two weeks ago

The plan lasts for one more month. Can anyone tell me if I can seek other internal jobs here at Ford while my performance improvement plan is in effect? I really want to get out of the group I work in.

If you get put on a PIP that is an invitation to do absolutely nothing for the rest of the time. You are supposed to act scared and then work your behind off for nothing because you're out anyway. Don't take the bait. Slack, spend your days interviewing for other jobs and get paid while you are doing it.

Once you get a PiP or a negative performance review ("Inconsistent"), you're done at Ford. You need to look outside of the company for a new job.

It will be hard to move while on the PiP. Your mgr will also need to coordinate with your potential hiring mgr on a new job, so you can imagine how that goes. Once you are targeted at Ford, you're done. That's what happened to me.

I never received a PIP in my IT career, but...... I worked for a company from 2001-2006. We were a small satellite site several states away from our HQ. My site was doing a reorg every quarter indicating to me that leadership was clueless. (Sound familiar?) I escaped any impact until 2004 where my team got the manger from he-l. She had a reputation. She was not manager/leader material whatsoever and everyone but leadership knew it. We butted heads constantly so, to no surprise, she gave me 2 consecutive bad annual reviews. I wound up creating a 7-page rebuttal to everything in her 1st eval on me. My rebuttal made no difference to HR. (I did my best to improve over the next year, but because I dared challenge her, she gave me a 2nd bad eval.) I did have a great reputation so after that 1st bad eval, I went to various managers about moving to a new team. No one could take me despite wanting to. My bad eval made me so toxic that it would 'appear' that a 'bad' employee was being 'dumped' on another team. My only choice was to leave and find another job which I did.

Good luck to everyone out there!

(P.S. I was part of the SRD in 2019.)

You need to get out of there and go to another company ASAP. The PIP is a way to get rid of you and a way for Ford to have a paper trail for legal protection.

Document everything. especially any coaching sessions with your boss. Two talk to a very good labor atty. see what your rights are. Best one is Flynn in Royal Oak. Won numerous cases against Ford. Good luck. but it is extremely difficult to win a case unless you have some representation.

Historically, used to ensure documentation to fire you; however, not always the case these days. Usually, but not always.

You can try but it's really time to get out once that happens.
They are trying to set you up to get rid of you.

@OP look externally.
Management will not allow you to move jobs as they will then need to put forth an “equivalent” head for reduction to meet the leadership tree budget objective. “Equivalent” being equivalent salary $.
It rots as many of the PIP targets are great employees they just had the bad luck of landing under a rotten people leader who chose them as the scapegoat.
People leaders who have tried to rescue unfairly targeted employees found themselves squarely in the PIP target. They suddenly needed work on being a team player.

You won’t be able to move internally because management will know you’re on it. Time to look for something external.
