Thread regarding Optum layoffs

How many people laid off by Optum last year have had a health crisis while no longer insured?

UnitedHealth Group’s slogan is: “Helping people live healthier lives.”

I lost my job at Optum in 2025 and remain unemployed. As a result, I also lost my health insurance. I cannot afford COBRA, and I have a serious health condition that is currently going untreated. Each month I am forced to choose between paying rent or paying for heathcare coverage.

Without treatment, my condition will eventually become terminal.

THANK YOU OPTUM FOR NOT CARING!

Same - on a medication for life that well, keeps me alive. Can't afford it without insurance. Luckily the manufacturer does a one year hardship supply - i've got that through the end of 2026. At that point, I dunno, guess I'll have to drop dead.

Definitely look into Medicaid if you are still unemployed. I was laid off in October and did that instead of COBRA.

@aj UnitedHealth Group is a major part of the problem when it comes to lobbying for policies in the U.S. Optum is not as innocent as you would like them to be.

@aj oh so Optum checks your claims to see who is utilizing their insurance and for what reason and will have compassion for you? NICE!!!

That has nothing to do with Optum. Your plight is the healthcare industry in America. Don't blame Optum

Most cities and towns have some kind of low income health care - find a teaching hospital and enroll in their system. The homeless are able to get care thru charity groups and clinics. Find those resources in the state your at. Consider moving to a state with Medicaid coverage. I have a friend that her son is in his 40’s does not work and has Medicaid and he is able bodied.

So sorry to hear this, I suggest MNcare and if possible potentially think about social security disability benefits. Not sure of all your circumstances but throwing it out there, this company is heartless. Take care.

Not sure what state you are in, MNCare saved my life after layoff in 2020. Was diagnosed with a type of cancer. I applied for MNCare and it was amazing! Please do not think you cannot get coverage - you should be able to get state insurance temporarily. I was told by DR no working - then spoke to financial assistance person at DRs office & they helped to get covered. Take care of you!!!!

Those of us underinsured are not much better off. American healthcare lacks in affordability and quality. Wishing you good luck!
