Thread regarding Open Text Corp. layoffs

March 23

People are suggesting this date but would they pick the last week of quarter ?

If it's true, is it just India or everyone ?

@pf The low cost strategy is going to backfire. Apparently, OTEX pay is low by Indian standards. Google OTEX and Opentext on reddit, and you can find may discussions among Indian developers regarding OTEX. Opinions of OTEX are low.

The result is that good people are likely to leave OTEX as soon as they can to get better pay and treatment somewhere else, and the less desirable people stay. We have seen that happen with our COE. We can't get rid on the detrimental ones, but the good ones move on as soon as they can.

@pg there's already talks on persona bots/agentic ai. Though I'm not sure OT is competent enough to set them up

Dw, I know we're on the chopping block first on this. I dont imagine they're going to stop at us though.

@pf if they were going to use automation for layoffs then it would make sense to do it in US, not India

@p5 because they'll try and automate to save even more.

India already works for considerably less salaries than anywhere else, often in worse condition and less protections to boot; cost cutting goes from paying people less to minimizing who they need to pay at all.

Likely wouldn't work longterm, but other companies are leaning into that trap now. Since OT is late to everything we'll likely be late to acknowledging that as well.

(Also the Hyderabad people mentioned layoffs like 3 weeks ago on glassdoor AND rumors of coerced resignation instead - no one is safe now.) ELT changes are possible as soon as that CEO comes in.

@k4, not true. Opentext are aggressively hiring and commiting to India. They see India as the future of opentext

Why it it that folks in India are asked to leave? How would costs reduce by cutting people in India? Wasn't OT all about cutting jobs in US and moving them to India? That's what has been happening during the last few rounds of layoffs.

@k4 This is true.

Heard 100s were asked to leave in India last week and 1000s more will go soon from India.

@ct because that will go as well as Amazon's recent vibe coding outages.

On March 23rd 1933 The German Reichstag passed the Enabling Act, which gave Adolf Hi---r the power to enact laws without the involvement of parliament, effectively ending democracy in Germany. 93 years later it’s going to be a big layoff day at OpenText. Look up the history, March 23rd is a notable day for a lot of things.

Probably should come back and disclose that I dont necessarily like that outcome either. But I can see OT trying that route.

Any role that's more advisory or can be split into 'advisings' and 'actual license or set up work' they're likely to at least try a bot or agentic AI for. The more it's just advising or non PII collecting like off the sales form the quicker OT will try and save a penny.

YALL
ADE/M are the people who help prep for sales. ADM is for current clients (upsells or cross sells) and ADE is usually for new clients.

Losing ADEs may not be bad, but normal AEs are probably getting additional duties to compensate. A lot of the times some support folks will defer to the sales contact form. Only for an ADE to come to the case holder over the customer.

My sibling in christ they had to give you a whole form, why is it coming back to us??

I don't like seeing anyone get laid off, but, it's come up as a possibility for years now. And I'm not exactly wow'd here. Get a presales bot and a lower level AE for some responsibilities and QA.

I can see it - people unable or unwilling to follow RTO would either be canned or likely to find new work by now. Layoffs to offset that from there.
1 week for warning, rest for discipline.
