Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Again, it's not AI

AI isn't taking people's jobs. Here's what's really happening

Oracle's layoffs show that the people losing jobs aren't losing them because AI can do their work. They're losing them to money spent on chips and data centers

@ag I'm sure customers who paid big bucks for support are thrilled.

@ag

That is like replacing an anchored steel girder with a floating buoy, but ok.

I know someone who responded to customers' escalation requests. Investigated, expedited, etc. Oracle let go most of the people who answered customer calls and the people who responded to customer escalation requests. Almost certain that customer calls are answered by a bot that can do nothing beyond offering "helpful" links.

So those roles were absolutely replaced by AI.

In Oracle’s case, those chips are being used for AI. So the job loss is directly due to AI spending.

And we have no AI - forget AI, we have no human intelligence since early 2000..
