Thread regarding Ovintiv layoffs

What a complete mess

There were so many ways to do this so much better. Instead, we got this mess. No wonder we're not doing better.

@ep yes some very good engineers. If they are overworked it’s because of the internal work process are inefficient and/or unnecessary. How much time is spent on technical work versus reviews, presentations, and endless meetings?

@ej We have some great engineers, they seem to overload them though. Don't want to see our field leads get thrown out either. Always heard Calgary is a political mess at the bow. Just like many I wish they would pull the band aid off already. All the best to everyone and their families.

@OP It’s a mess because of two reasons. Firstly they have allowed the company to become top heavy, bloated and often didn’t promote on merit…. Secondly, the HR function has been rather ineffective (desperately needs some new leadership).

@eg Thanks. I heard that the Calgary office is "getting turned upside down", also looking close at contractor head count, etc.

@ef Sounds like everything will happen around the AOA divestiture close. VPs are currently meeting and mapping out their new , pared down structures and figuring who stays and goes. One of the VPs told their team that this will impact all offices and all groups.

@e9 Work in the field, been a weird atmosphere for about 3 months, whispers and rumours is all we get. Any idea what is going down for real?

@bn were you previously under the assumption that Canadian ops was going to be unaffected during this massive company-wide restructuring? Or are you talking about something else?

@OP I hear rumours of big changes in the Canadian operations, layoffs in Calgary and field shake ups. Anyone else hear this?
