Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

It took me ten months to get an interview

Ten. Frigging. Months. And I'm not optimistic it'll even pan out. I've lost count of the resumes, the outreach, the recruiters. Fake job posts, dead ends everywhere. There were moments I wanted to give up, just let whatever happen, happen. I thought I'd find some calm despite the endless layoffs. Instead, I just wound myself up tighter.

I went from applying to jaba developer (not quite good fast enough data types and algorithms) competing with lots, to PLSQL / Oracle developer where my PLSQL / Oracle experience was values. Lasted 5 months. My (java with empedded sql and some PLSQL) experience not quite right. But now I have an extra 5 months PLSQL experience! Willing to try anything. But ok for money nearly early retired.

@aq I was cut in September also. Since then I've had exactly 1 interview where there was a chance of making the final round, didn't happen though. Two days ago I was contacted by an HR rep asking if I would be interested in interviewing for a position paying close to $50k less than I was making at Oracle.

Employers know they have the upper hand right now and are not only being highly selective but also making low ball offers hoping desperate candidates will take it.

I take some satisfaction seeing Oracle have cash flow and debt problems that may topple the Ellison empire before its over.

1300 apps. One interview. Giving tech 5 more months before I look into trades and non desk jobs. I don’t see anyone happy that is in tech.

I know very well. It's a very tough market right now. It took me a 1.5 years to find my current role. I was miserable. I didn't have a problem getting interviews. However, in many cases I was 'over qualified' or they had selected an internal person already. Companies know it's a tight market and being very, very selective. Keep the faith. You will find a role at some point.
