Thread regarding Ford layoffs

perspective on RTO push

i still can't comprehend the reality that there were people in a room deciding this is a necessary idea, are high level meetings just a bunch of sanitized robots? is there a culture of treating people lesser than? what has it achieved im still doing individual work plus teams meetings and not a single in person meeting

night and day difference in quality of life for the worse, just why?

Companies choose to ignore the fact that employees factor in the total costs of commuting and then demand to de compensated for them when the job market permits.

Right now employers have the upper hand but things will change.

@22z These days, a salary of 150k isn’t exactly much, considering the level of education some of these individuals possess. In fact, 150k is the average salary that graduates from the graduate schools we recruit at.

@22z I want accountability for bad decisions, and I can get it if I choose.

*ing whiners. Get your es into the office and stop complaining.

Making $150k+ including bonuses and have such an entitled, "I want what I want and I want the company to accommodate me!" mentality.

@yz You need to schedule a Teams Meeting at 3:30 p.m. Then you call in on your way home. That's how you play the game.

@yz It's possible that these people have a TWA arrangement, or they have late off site meetings or they are working some from home. Anyways, that's up to them and their managers.

@p5 , we noticed that too. We are in around 7:30 until 4ish. People come in way after us and are gone around 3. What are we doing wrong?

@ag Bingo. Face it, the state and Ford was all on board during scary, scary C*VID about working from home. Fast forward 5 years, the state can't print money, tax revenues way down, then the RTO mandate hits for Sept. 2025. The "family" was likely told, get them back to the office or your tax breaks (including the one for that big expensive property in Washtenaw county) go bye bye. Then amazingly, in Jan. 2026, a new gas tax gets sprung on all the commuters, imagine that... Nothing to see here, move along...

Ford salaried employees are among the most entitled people on the planet.

I will tell you why. Ford quality stinks. They are bringing everyone in to help align the teams to try to avoid the quality issues.

People are coming in, but I see many showing up late 9-10am then leaving at 3. Are they working at home before/after? Doubtful.

I've had to get up and leave the area because too many people are coughing and sniffling. This is the environment we've been subject to.

I’m optimistic that 4 and 5 day RTOs will slowly roll back to 3 or 4 day hybrid arrangements. It is true that there are major tax implications of where people work, which partially drives this. It is also true that most companies right now are ok with employees leaving due to RTO. As the tide changes back to a healthier labor market, companies will have to grow more flexible to retain their talent. There is so much data on how much employees are working there’s no reason they can’t measure that from home or at work. How long does this pendulum swing take? Who knows unfortunately.

@af

And their "leadership" is continually unable to do any performance management or enforce any accountability?

Sounds like pigshit to me, chief.

@ah
Sounds like they are trying to get fired, while other hard working employees get terminated for ageism. Make it make sense!

While I don't think everyone is goofing off at home, there are 2 guys that I sit by that should be fired immediately. One guys sleeps at his desk right in the open. The other guy books a focus room and sleeps in there. If they do this AT work, I'm sure they are doing it AT home.

It is necessary to get the tax breaks on all the new buildings.

RTO is the norm. Too much goofing off working at home as studies have proved
