A South Side rail operator near Rickenbacker International Airport is closing, eliminating more than 100 jobs in central Ohio.

Cincinnati-based Parsec, an intermodal railroad transportation contractor, filed a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) notice with Ohio Department of Job and Family Services announcing the cuts.

The closure of a rail terminal at 3329 Thoroughbred Dr. just south of Rickenbacker means that 115 people will lose their jobs.

An employee at Parsec but would not provide their name told The Disipatch that those losing jobs are general laborers including truck drivers, crane operators and maintenance workers.

According to its WARN application, 78 of those laid off are loaders, 12 are mechanics, 7 are supervisors and the rest a variety of backup jobs.

In its WARN notice, Parsec said lost "the entirety of the business contracted by the customers" and that neogotiations for an ongoing business relationship had failed.

The workers last day will be May 1 and will be offered an undisclosed severance, the Persec source said, noting that the employees are part of the Teamsters union. Calls to Teamsters Local 413 on Rich Street were not immediately returned.

In addition to Parsec, Taikisha USA is closing a facility at 1939 Refugee Road. That will lead to 81 lost jobs.
