Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Tech PMO

Heard Technical Program/Product Management Org is going to be heavily impacted this time. Is this true? Any insights?

@ae agree, but the managers they give us are so incompetent. It’s honestly been easier to do it myself. With the exception of a few program directors the incompetence there is stunning as well.

@bf

While this post may have been in jest; there is no way around it. An immense offshore movement is happening. We didn’t add 100k sq foot of office space in India for just call centers.

@ae sounds like it will be mostly engineering directors

I am shocked.

Engineering leaders that are nepotism motivated with caste centric thinking coupled with Nike Diversity Bonus structures aren’t able to make objective decisions on macro org planning. Yes, let’s layoff of every non engineer. That makes sense.

This time, the gutting of Program Management will surely unlock the potential of our engineering talent that works 2-3 hours per day. Why did it take so long to remove the structure responsible for navigating our silod engineering structure; that previously was the only conduit for ensuring delivery alignment.

Yes, this time (not the previous nine program layoffs) will surely be the savior of Nike. Thank you soooo so much Bandio and Sumatra and Rupalese for your divine intervention. What ever can we do to repay you during Diwali?

These teams were already decimated in past reorgs, esp program, so much that engg is sometimes carrying proj mgmt for low priorities. There is no one left to cut. It is a problem today because of too many priorities

I expect proportional cuts across all roles to fit aop goals. The biz priorities will be the measuring stick for cuts and reassignments and the orgs driving revenue will be prioritized, listen to what RA is saying it is not a mystery

That area was mowed down at Converse. Wouldn’t be surprised to see it happen at Nike

FTS already cut most last year. Makes us now have to do our own project management because they said they will only do program. Now teams have to manage their own projects. I just want the old model back. I hate project managing things.

Did you really expect leaders that have only ever been engineers to protect non engineer roles?

Tech leadership is trash.

Fascinating. I was there for 3 years and in that time our PM team got from 8 down to 2 PMs. Then they eliminated TPMs which expanded our scope, fine. I guess then it will be 1 PM left now? Speaking from my personal experience, that made sense if initiatives or products or workstreams were getting cut. But when they were just all deferred to an existing PM who already had very active work, you set them up for failure.

What are the odds they’ll keep Kohls rejects in SD positions with no Technology Program / Portfolio management experience?
