If you have a German employment contract, you can leave or change positions even the day after you start. There is no mandatory minimum period of employment. Anything stated on the internal website is intended for colleagues outside Germany. If you have any doubts, speak to a member of the works council. They will be able to clarify this for you. I know many colleagues who transferred to a different manager within their first three months.

even after 12 months, your manager and skip could still say that they need 6 months for transfer, and then the new role could not wait for 6 months

I did it years ago with full support of both managers after a reorg. It depends on the manager. If you trust your manager and/or have a good relationship you can give it a try with a legitimate reason for the move. On the other hand if you are leaving due to bad relationship with current manager then it may be better to wait until you are on the current role for 12 months.

@OP I do recall a scenario where there was an exception but this was quite some time ago so I don't remember the details.

The best advice I can give anyone who works at SAP is to completely ignore their rules and protocols, make up your own but make sure that you have a good reason for them that you fully understand and can communicate, and then pressure leadership into conformity.

That's what a lot of other people do. Depending on where you're at in SAP, you probably notice that policies are unkept and often contradictory. This is why. Many leaders at SAP don't really understand what we present to them. They are just soulless approval nodes.

@OP it happens for mainly two reasons:

It's either Negative: your current manager isn't happy with your performance or integration to his team (some colleagues complained about you)

Or Positive: the other manager needs a resource and your name was suggested because you can fill the position and there is good opinion about your performance and behavior.

Did you ask one the managers involved in the transfer ?
