Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

No more hiring in Phoenix, Denver, or Austin

Schwab is getting ready to announce (either to PLs or company-wide) that they will no longer hire in these locations. If you have been checking the job postings lately you probably already noticed this.

After requiring many of us to return to the office for “collaboration” and “growth,” this decision creates a serious issue. Employees in these offices may have little to no path for advancement.

I spoke with a hiring manager about an open role. Even though I sit just a few seats away in the same office he would not have been allowed to hire me or anyone else in my office. He would have had to hire someone in another state.

So much for in office collaboration!

Even employees working remotely due to medical accommodations, if they report into one of these offices, would not be eligible for those roles.

One again, terrible decisions made by senior leadership making huge impacts on our livelihood.

So, not necessarily true. Our open positions are open to anyone in the same department, no matter where the location is stated. It is shifts from other department seating allocations that are not being allowed.

@dh The obv meant roles that could be performed in multiple locations. Yeesh. No one is hiring a guy to install servers in Westlake and no one is justifying a call taker in a location without a call center.

Fake news… CS&S are in Phoenix and they have to continually higher for these roles because they’re such a high burnout.

This information is absolutely incorrect

Positions outside Westlake have required additional justification for years.

@ak oh it’s obvious it’s about reducing head count. But it’s hard to support the narrative that it’s about in person collaboration when you won’t let people collaborate in person.

RTO was about senior leadership wanting to reduce headcount without yet another round of layoffs

The whole point of RTO was to cause attrition but because they didn't get enough people to quit now they will have to a hiring freeze and/or layoffs
