It's a wonder any of us can get any work done. It's unhealthy and ki-ls morale. If we had better leadership, they'd realize they're destroying the entire company like this.

@ap 2020 was a major economic downturn boomer. Dummy.
@ap seems like someone struck a nerve.
If there were layoffs in 2008, and yes I was employed by UHG well before then, it was very minimal, and non-existent after the recovery, until about 2017-ish, when they ramped up to monthly. And absolutely no one with sense, young or old, thinks the layoff cadence at this particular corporation is normal, because it’s not.
@ab You really haven't been around in an economic downturn. Were you around in 2008? Feel free to play the victim but this is nothing new for lots of people out here. You just may not be old enough to have seen it a few times.
I started in Summer 2022 as a people leader, and my hiring manager was laid off several months later. It has been rolling layoffs ever since. I was lucky to have another manager who was as transparent as possible and was matter of fact about what to expect quarter to quarter because we both lead larger teams. Half of that is gone now. Nearly 4 years of this. Everyone who reports to me fears the next wave. They see it on this site and more than often it's facts. It is openly discussed. Practically nobody has gotten a promotion even if rated 5 consistently and working at much lower GL than they contribute. If the job market were better Optum corporate would be in deep trouble. I suppose they already are given the macro environment.
@a8 I’ve worked at numerous larger organizations in my career. The amount of layoffs at Optum is beyond anything I’ve ever seen.
News flash.. Sorry they already know. They don’t care as long as they keep collection paycheck. Incompetence breeds incompetence.
@OP Welcome to the real world. This isn't unique to Optum or to any industry.
