Thread regarding BP PLC layoffs

Can the XOM culture and work process work at bp?

The consultant community is advising bp board members that the Band Aid needs to be pulled quickly so bp can transition into a leaner more focused group. Expecting XOM initiatives like PIP and forced rankings to start in 2026.

How will bp employed react and adjust towards new ways of working? Realizing that the job market is abysmal and not really keen on bp skills and experience.

PIPs have been around for decades. These are not a new initiative.

@cs Talking of Microsoft, you'd think someone in bp leadership would know all about microsofts lost decade, it's not hidden info, its all over the internet. Complete disaster thanks to a toxic culture, driven by stacked ranking, meanwhile their competitors thrived.

It failed at GE, Microsoft, and countless other companies. It will eventually bite Exxon (and BP) in the butt.

You realise PIP and forced rankings started last year, right? I don't think you work at bp at all. For what it's worth bp employees will adapt to working like Exxon in same way Exxon Employees and every other company with this forced ranking system adapt. They'll stop collaborating, stop sharing great ideas, stifle innovation, keep good ideas as their own, stop speaking up or giving constructive feedback, they'll be rivalry, burnout and toxicity. Managers with strong teams will recruit weak sacrificial employees to keep their teams intact. It's been going on a while. bp dont just lose their chosen 10% every year, they'll lose their great people who don't need to put up with this. All the great industry talent I know wouldn't touch bp, so good luck replacing them. I know the company want to keep hold of me (for now) but I'm planning my out. A big percentage of bp employees are not O&G specific and can work anywhere.
