Thread regarding Staples Inc. layoffs

snow days & attendance tracking

We’ve had at least two significant storms in the last few weeks, depositing 12-18 inches across the region. And a smattering of smaller snowfalls also affecting commutes.

What is the official expectation from corporate for weekly attendance when there is a snow day? No one has said whether we are expected to make up that attendance day later in the week. Seems logical that we wouldn’t have to, but there has been no official word and people are uneasy.

Moreover, even if we’re not expected to make up the day — will attendance tracking reports consider snow days, or will they hurt our average days in attendance?

I’ve heard even with the snow days, upper management has the attendance data and they have started disciplinary action. This is another RIF without them looking like the bad guy. This place literally su-ks. As I sit here and write, I dread going to work tomorrow

If they want to get rid of you, they can. All Corp employees in MA are “employees at will” so they can sh-t can you without cause.

With that, be careful taking too many snow days!

My leader sent out a note asking associates to stay home and be safe. He also said that it was not expected to be made up as an in office day later in the week. I hope all leaders are taking a similar level-headed approach.

You’re thinking about it too much. It’s a snow day. Stay home and move on

No one should be worried about their job, especially during these extenuating circumstances. The fact that anyone is wringing their hands over the potential of being handed a demerit for this weeks’ attendance is so sad to read. American work culture is gross.
