I have never been through this before, and am wondering how they notify people of JE. Does an email invite for an HR group meeting go out? Does your direct supervisor tell you? How are you informed of your severance package? My team and I are so worried. I wish we would know what tomorrow and the future holds.

@b0 We can login to chat still? I can't login to Iris anymore.
@OP I was unexpectedly laid off the end Of January, no idea. I logged in on Thursday and had a department announcement calendar invite on my calendar at 830am that was mandatory. They emailed me all the severance info after but went through it in the spot. I don't think I retained any of it until I was off the call though.
@OP when I was laid off from Cigna, my manager used my bi-weekly 1 on 1 to tell me that my position was being eliminated. HR was not on the line. I received the documents with the breakdown of everything. Severance, bonus payout and information about unemployment. My access to the systems I used daily were removed. My manager told me that I was not required to login every day but I did just so I could chat with my colleagues. I would login bright and early the go back to bed around 9AM and check in again at noon. I did that for about 4 weeks before my termination date.
I went ahead and blocked my calendar as busy from 8am until noon, so I’m safe.
In my corporate experience (not at Cigna), either your manager, or your manager's boss will send an invite to you. Check to see if an HR person is invited as well, that's your answer right there. If it's your bosses boss, then your is manager is going to get hit or already got hit and its most likely department wide. As soon as the call/meeting starts the manager or director will explain that you are being let go. They will not go into details as to the why (unless its termination with cause) and will at that point hand the meeting over to the HR person as they wish you luck. The HR person will explain the process, severence, any monies owed to you, benifit terminations / extensions if any, and when your last day is.
I have been on both sides of this. It's painful, obviously more so on the receiving end of it. If you drank the corporate Kool-Aid, it makes it worse as you will feel betrayed for your loyalty. Morn the loss, and move on. Your life is going to change, and its OK even if you don't think so.
From what happened on 1/29 to others in my area, they received a meeting from their director asking for a meeting early the next morning. The email also stated you could take the rest of the day off after the meeting was over without using PTO time. That would be a big indicator that it's going to be a layoff meeting. Those in my area did find out their severance package during that meeting.
