Thread regarding U.S. Bank layoffs

Never thought I'd say this

I'm now rooting for a layoff. I've earned a decent package and I'd happily take it and run. How messed up is it that people with years of service would rather be shown the door than stick around? Says everything about where this place is at.

@k8 I made them lay me off to get the package. I was a target for quite a while, and it was devastating to my identity, but now they owe me a lot of money, so I win. They’ll never get me back and I have made sure to communicate to everyone I know what a terrible place it is to work at. I win.

Hold out for the package. In the meantime, do whats required of you and don't think about the place when you log off. Unless it is your job, don't do it. Stay within your job function and pay grade. If they want to play games, we should play to win. Layoffs look bad. They want us to quit. I'm not letting them win.

For the person who wonders how boomers and X did it, they had a spouse, mortgage, car payment, and likely children. If you are 30, find another company to work for. One that is growing and has a future. This dump doesn't deserve you.

@a6

You seem to have no business acumen. Many of those hoping for layoffs are potentially leaving hundreds of thousands of dollars on the table if they leave voluntarily. Given the fact that most places they would be going to no longer offer signing bonuses or anything like that, you’re putting yourself in a hole financially, if you leave voluntarily. You sound like who has no other options but to stay.

The old folks can do it because a) they're likely paid better than most and b) they don't have the motivation or let's face it skillset to move on to that next banking job

I'm only in my 30s but I'm begging to be laid off and put out of my misery at this point. Idk how the boomers and gen x did this for so long. My soul feels like it's rotting away. I think I'd rather be a barista at this point. I just can't pretend to care about tinkering around in microsoft office anymore. Idk how the old folks do it, I can't seem to find a way to care about pointless work

@bw My skip level manager told me you can be put on the voluntary layoff list. It will greatly increase your chances. Just tell your manager to run it up the org chart. My manager didn't know about the list, but her manager did.

There is one strategy: replace you with Indians from their home country. That's it. Good luck, the third world is the third world for a reason.

Same here. Just give me a package already! I wish the company would offer voluntary severance or early retirement. I used to enjoy my work but the culture has spiraled to an all time low. Overt depression is how I would describe the vibe in our large suburban warehouse like building.

Welcome to the club. Everyone in technology over age 50 is fed up, looking for an exit ramp. Management has destroyed a destination company. A place where people cared and people were dedicated. Now, it's a dumpster fire.

Horrible leadership, people least qualified or capable of running a big bank ended up where they are, beginning the spiral into public irrelevance, nothing but a consultant mentality from the managing committee, where the consultant doesn't own or carry any accountability for outcome or results and talent is a deemed and viewed as a disposable commodity.

Hopefully some new arrivals and additional leadership will arrive with the April annual meeting, but many highly valued customers and clients have already begun their exit process.

What you got that is better? If it’s retirement then a package won’t make much of a difference. If you got a better job lined than why wait. I think those rooting for a layoff at any company there are at does not deserve to be there.
