Thread regarding TIAA (TIAA-CREF) layoffs

What do different career levels mean?

Got a promo and a new career level, not sure if that maps to anything (Salary range/ VC target range, etc)

@ay

Some moved into a new tier. I did. I was maxed out in my role trajectory, but got a promotion in my business until which bumped me into a new level. This was the reason for the 15% bump.

A 10% raise at this point isn’t bad. In the past I got a promotion once with a 5% raise, which was a bummer. Plus you’ll have a better VC target and that will pay off for you.

Congrats though!

@a1

I see other people comment on other posts where they get promotions and they all seem to be getting a 15% increase... meanwhile I only get a 10% increase... I guess it varies

"Got a promo and a new career level, not sure if that maps to anything (Salary range/ VC target range, etc)". When your manager gave you the good news of the promotion, did they not explain any of that to you?

Unfortunately some promotions don’t lead to a raise. If you’re at the same level in the hierarchy, then you can technically stay at the same pay. Your VC target should go up, and hopefully you get a small pay bump.

I got a promotion this go round, and I moved up the employee level code (or whatever they call it) so I got a 15% pay bump and higher VC target.

Congrats to you, and hopefully it comes with better pay.
